-1 this morning. 55 in the house right now. I thought something was wrong with the indoor/outdoor thermometer since it seemed to be reading 86 degrees, but then I realized that I missed the decimal point - 8.6 degrees.

Yeah, since my work schedule changes every quarter I got tired of reprogramming the thermostat and just control it manually. I set it down to the low 50s when I left this morning, and the heater was on when I came home this evening.

I’ll probably keep the temps a little higher than I normally do since my mother doesn’t have any experience with this thing called ‘w inter’ . It’s in the seventies and eighties back home in SoCal, and she’s coming out here for a few weeks during the coldest part of the coldest season. I wanted my folks to come out and experience the Midwest, but I wasn’t going to do it during winter. But this isn’t a normal visit, and I’m not going to put off surgery so that she can be warm. Maybe I should have gone to SoCal for the surgery instead of her coming out here...

Let me tell you, I am not looking forward to my next electricity bill...

And my socks got a little wet from the snow, so even indoors my toes are frozen. Things are getting better though - it’s now up to 58 degrees in here!

My day started with -30° windchill, now it’s almost 40°. A pleasant change.

Admittedly, I had to drive from Indy to Atlanta to pull it off, but WORTH IT.
